Martin Jones, VP Food & Beverage Europe, FRHI Hotels & Resorts
In April 2015 Martin joined FRHI Hotels & Resorts from Starwood Hotels & Resorts where he was Vice President, Asia Pacific since 2009 and brings over more than 30 years of international experience to his new role. Martin started his career in 1981 in stewarding at the Hyatt Kingsgate in Sydney and built up his career from there, working in numerous renown hotels and companies such as Sheraton, Westin, Hayman Island resorts and InterContinental, holding different management level positions with a constant focus on Food & Beverage as well as sales and marketing.
In 1998, Martin became General Manager for the opening of the Begawan Giri Estate in Bali and started working for Starwood Hotels & Resorts a year later, as the General Manager, The Westin Plaza Singapore as well as Director of Operations, The Westin Stamford & Westin Plaza in Singapore (today Fairmont & Swissôtel). He then became Senior Director, F & B, Asia Pacific in 2000. Martin was promoted to General Manager of the W Seoul-Walkerhill in 2002 for the first “W” opening on the Asian continent and moved to Malaysia in 2005 as General Manager of The Westin Kuala Lumpur.
Martin was promoted in 2007 as Managing Director, then Vice President Food & Beverage, Asia Pacific for Starwood Hotels. During his time with Starwood Hotels Martin was awarded Starwoods ‘Most Creative Innovator’ award for his contribution to the company in the development of food and beverage.
An Australian national, Martin studied a Hotel Management diploma at Ryde School of Catering, Australia; has studied food and beverage management in Cornell University, USA and went through a Bachelor of Arts in Sydney University, Australia majoring in Music and Psychology. A favourite saying of Martin, and perhaps one to remember is ‘Personally I’m always keen to learn, although I don’t always like being taught’
His passions include food, wine, music and aviculture as well as a penchant for travel.
